All AE team members have specialized backgrounds as former elite athletes or in professional coaching and lifestyle leadership roles. All personal trainers have undergraduate degrees or relevant professional certifications.
Brad McEwen ASCA, CSCS
AE Founder & Managing Director
Originally from Sydney, Australia and a former elite rugby player, Brad founded Athletic Evolution (AE) to provide the type of training normally reserved for elite athletes to anyone with the desire and drive for success. Brad’s approach to training takes the cutting edge methods applied to elite athletes, and brings them to the aspiring athlete and general population. His emphasis is on empowering people to reach their true personal potential. Brad provides performance-based training that enables clients to train with a purpose and he lives by the philosophy that fitness should be part of a balanced and active lifestyle, not a short-term solution.
With over ten years experience as a high performance coach in Canada, Australia and the United States, Brad has worked with professional and emerging athletes from a vast range of sports. He has provided performance training to high profile athletes from Hockey Canada, the NHL, WHL and Australian Rugby Union, as well as a range of other athletes including alpine skiers, bobsled athletes, international calibre triathletes and everything in between. Through his energy and desire to truly educate, Brad strives to provide people from all walks of life with the tools they need to achieve their goals - in sport and life.
Camille McEwen
Business Director - Marketing & Client Services
As a communications professional with experience across a wide range of industries, Camille brings a variety of expertise to the AE team. Camille has worked in media relations & brand management in professional sports; and as a management consultant to leading real-estate and recruitment firms in Australia. She also has several years experience as a marketing & communications associate in a variety of other sectors.
Within AE, Camille spends her time in several different areas ranging from marketing and business development to teaching yoga. Her professional background is complemented with experience as a competitive gymnast, elite women's fastpitch player and certified gymnastics coach. She has taught both competitive & developmental gymnasts, and has also coached fitness competitors and martial artists. While living in Australia, Camille had the opportunity to study yoga & is currently in the final steps of completing her yoga teacher training (RYT 200) to become certified as an instructor.
Shawn Preston BSc, MSc, CSCS
Athlete Performance Specialist
Shawn is dedicated to utilizing a combination of researched methods, and proven techniques of training to enable athletes fulfill their ultimate performance potential.
Shawn has worked with many athletes all over the United States and Canada in several sport disciplines ranging from NFL, NHL, AHL, MLB, MMA, AVP-Beach Volleyball, USA Paralympic Soccer, NCAA (div. 1-3), and Canadian National Teams in Wrestling, Sailing, Tae-Kwon-Do, and Snowboard. Shawn currently serves as a strength and performance consultant with the Canadian Snowboard Federation and it’s National Team members. His ability to bridge the gap between performance training and injury prevention allows him to stand out as a Performance Specialist.
Shawn earned his Bachelors degree in Athletic Training at the University of Maine-Presque Isle where he also played Collegiate Basketball; and also earned his Masters of Science Education degree at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia.
Paul Robertson BPE, CEP, CSCS
Athlete Performance Specialist
A leader in athlete performance training, Paul sets the standard for providing AE athletes with cutting-edge programs based on the latest research and proven techniques in sports science. Paul has been in the sport performance world as a conditioning specialist for over a decade working primarily with speed and power athletes including hockey, soccer, football and lacrosse players. Paul brings to Athletic Evolution, extensive experience coaching top-performers including some of the biggest names in the NHL. While working with Twist Conditioning in Vancouver BC, Paul was rated by the NHL players as Twist’s top elite conditioning coach.
Paul is highly regarded for his technical knowledge and ability to educate athletes from all levels of sport, all the way from young athletes to professionals. His integrity and constant commitment to upholding the highest standard for excellence in sport conditioning enables AE to guide athletes to achieve unprecedented results. Paul is also currently contracted by the Calgary Police Service, where he works with police recruits and various specialty units.
Vanessa Plimley CPT, MES
Personal Trainer
Vanessa holds extensive experience as a personal trainer in Canmore, as well as specialized experience in post rehab exercise. After going through her own back surgery in 2001, Vanessa developed a passion for helping others recover from their injuries. She now combines her personal recovery experience with her expertise as a trainer to help others get back in action and stay in action.
Vanessa works with people with all types of health and fitness goals with her clients coming from every walk of life and recreational background. She is known at AE for her enthusiasm and endlessly contagious positive energy. As a constant seeker of balance, Vanessa compliments her personal training career with being an ACMG hiking guide in the Canadian Rockies. She has an extensive athletic background that includes competitive running, surfing, climbing ice/rock, as well as skiing and boarding, When not working as a personal trainer with AE, she is surfing around the world, volunteering on overseas projects and playing in the mountains
Sarah Dupuis BSc Kin, CATA Candidate
Personal Trainer
From an early age, Sarah has been involved in athletics from competitive fastball, figure skating and ice dancing to waterskiing and wakeboarding. Her personal experience within a variety of sport disciplines ultimately led Sarah to the path of attaining a career in rehabilitation and sport performance. Sarah received her Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology from the University of Alberta, and a post-graduate Advanced Certificate in Athletic Therapy from Mount Royal College. She is an AFLC certified indoor cycling instructor and is currently preparing to take her Athletic Therapy licensing exam.
Within the past five years, Sarah has worked with provincial, national, and university level athletes including Alberta Soccer, Rugby Alberta, Football Alberta, Wheelchair Rugby Canada, and the University of Alberta. Her combined academic knowledge and hands-on experience working with competitive athletes provides Sarah with the framework to build and deliver training programs for a vast range of personal training clients at Athletic Evolution Canmore. Sarah is specialized in working with people with general health and fitness goals, as well as post-rehab clients looking to expedite their recovery in a safe and controlled setting.
Ryan Smith BA, NCCP
Conditioning Specialist
Ryan brings to AE, extensive experience from his career as a professional rugby player in New Zealand and France and as a member of the Canadian national rugby program. Ryan has represented Canada at two world cups and has been capped 37 times. With an extensive playing background and elite coaching experience, Ryan’s technical knowledge and in depth understanding of the specific requirements of strength & power in contact sports make him an invaluable resource to rugby coaches and athletes alike. Ryan completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Guelph.
Kyle Moir
Intern / Personal Trainer
After training with AE as an athlete, Kyle joined the team in the role of intern while pursuing his Bachelor of Kinesiology (Honours) at Lakehead University. As an intern, Kyle has the opportunity to further his education in sport performance and wellness training, while developing his coaching skills under the guidance of AE's highly experienced senior coaches.
Kyle has an extensive background as an elite athlete; he was drafted in the 5th round of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft (139th overall) by the Nashville Predators and played 5 years in the WHL with the Swift Current Broncos. During his career, Kyle set the WHL/CHL record for games and minutes played by a goalie, along with several other team records. Kyle was named Swift Current's MVP and player of the year for the 2004-2005 and 2005-2006 seasons, and was also awarded the WHL and CHL Humanitarian of the Year Award for 2006-2007. Kyle continues to play hockey with Lakehead University while completing his degree.
Andrew Milne
On Ice Performance Coach
Andrew brings a wealth of expertise to AE’s High Performance Hockey Program from both sides of the bench – as an elite level coach and former professional hockey player. Andrew recently assumed the role of Head Coach and General Manager with the AJHL’s Canmore Eagles, after spending 2005 to 2008 with the Western Hockey League (WHL) as Assistant Coach to the Kamloops Blazers (2006-2008) and Assistant Coach to the Swift Current Broncos (2005-2006). During his hockey career, Andrew played four seasons in the WHL; with Spokane, Swift Current, and Medicine Hat. He also played professional hockey in Europe.
As an On Ice Performance Coach with AE, Andrew provides a dynamic mix of technical skill development and conditioning based sessions that are seamlessly integrated into our high performance dryland program. Andrew has a Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education with a major in Sports Management from the University of Alberta.
