All AE team members have specialized backgrounds as former elite athletes or in professional coaching and lifestyle leadership roles. All personal trainers have undergraduate degrees or relevant professional certifications.

 

Brad McEwen

Brad McEwen ASCA, CSCS

AE Founder & Managing Director

Brad founded Athletic Evolution to provide the type of training normally reserved for elite athletes to anyone with the desire & drive to reach their true personal potential. Brad’s approach takes the cutting edge methods applied to elite athletes and brings them to the aspiring athlete and general population. His focus is on empowering people to go beyond their perceived limitations to discover their real potential. Through his innovative approach & desire to truly educate, Brad provides people with the tools they need to achieve their goals - in sport and life.

Brad has over ten years experience as a personal trainer and high performance coach in Canada, Australia and the United States. He has worked with a vast range of people with all kinds of health and fitness goals; in addition to professional and emerging athletes from a wide range of sports. Brad has provided performance training to athletes from the NHL, WHL and Australian Rugby Union, as well as a range of other athletes from alpine skiers to endurance athletes, and everything in between. Brad is also a Consultant to Hockey Canada's National Development Program.

Camille McEwen

Camille McEwen

Business Director

Camille brings a diverse range of expertise to Athletic Evolution in her role as Business Director. Over the course of her professional career, Camille has worked as a marketing & communications specialist in several distinct industries in Canada, Australia and the United States. Her background includes brand management and media relations in professional sports; marketing and sales in the natural resource sector; and business development for leading real-estate and recruitment firms.

She is a former competitive gymnast & certified gymnastics coach with extensive experience teaching competitive gymnasts, as well as fitness competitors and martial artists. Camille is also currently pursuing her yoga teacher training, and is a busy mom with two energetic young boys at home. Through her position with Athletic Evolution, Camille is able to combine her professional skillset with her lifelong passion for sport and fitness.

AmyLee Nelson

Amy Lee Nelson

Coordinator

Amy Lee is a Canmore local, born and raised in the Bow Valley! Her love of health and fitness goes back to her early days and the extensive involvement of her family in the local community. Before discovering her passion for women’s hockey, Amylee trained as a competitive figure skater in Canmore. As a natural athlete, Amylee also participated and competed in a wide range of school sports from volleyball to basketball and crosscountry running; and is now involved with coaching several team sports at the local high school.

AmyLee began as a Customer Service Rep with Athletic Evolution while taking some time to contemplate her career path. She now coordinates a variety of programs & client services, whilst also enrolled full-time at Mount Royal University in Calgary. She is interested in Personal Training, Health and Nutrition, Sports Psychology and Coaching.

Shelley Collier

Shelley Collier BSc, CPT

Personal Trainer

Shelley is a committed trainer with passion, empathy, determination, and a desire to be her best. Her funky functional approach to training enables efficiency in movement patterns, and creates a fun and transferable approach to training. Along with being a qualified personal trainer, Shelley holds certifications in effective movement training, TRX suspension training, and Powerplate qualifications including Powerplate golf certification. She obtained her degree in Exercise Science in Wollongong, Australia and comes to Athletic Evolution with plenty of experience in varied personal training roles; working with diverse population groups, group exercise, lifestyle coaching and motivational goal setting.

Shelley has a holistic, individualized approach to fitness training whereby her training is always tailored to the needs and goals of her clients. Her approach to achieving results not only comes from rounded fitness training but through nutritional guidance and lifestyle choices.

MartinaBenesova

Martina Benesova BComm, CPT

Personal Trainer

Martina grew up as a professional downhill skier in Europe, where she competed for ten years. Upon completion of her athletic career, she moved on to coaching and was an Assistant Coach at the national level in Slovakia for downhill ski racing. Martina later moved to Australia where she decided to study fitness and pursue a career as a personal trainer, later on having her own outdoor personal training business in Melbourne.

Having settled most recently in Canmore where she’s able to maintain her pursuits as a ski instructor and personal trainer; Martina now coaches the Blackdog Ski Racing Team at Lake Louise and a diverse range of clients at Athletic Evolution.  She loves her work motivating people as a trainer, and is constantly diversifying her skillset by becoming certified in new areas such as spin & TRX Suspension Training. Outside her work & time on the hill, Martina loves to travel and do “adrenalin sports” – she is a certified white water rafting guide & rescue diver. She also likes playing tennis, hiking & surfing.

ShawnPreston

Shawn Preston MSc, NCCP

Conditioning Coach

Shawn is a professional Strength & Conditioning Coach with extensive experience guiding a wide range of athletes toward their performance goals. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training at the University of Maine-Presque Isle, where he also played Collegiate Basketball. His Masters of Science Education degree was completed at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia. 

Shawn is dedicated to utilizing a combination of researched methods, and proven techniques of training.  His ability to bridge the gap between performance training and injury prevention allows him to stand out as a Performance Specialist. Shawn has worked with many athletes all over the United States and Canada in several sport disciplines ranging from NFL, NHL, AHL, MLB, MMA, AVP-Beach Volleyball, USA Paralympic Soccer, NCAA (div. 1-3), and Canadian National Teams in Wrestling, Sailing, Tae-Kwon-Do, and Snowboard. Shawn presently serves as a strength and performance consultant with the Canadian Snowboard Federation and it’s National Team members; and also works out of Peak Power in Calgary.

MartineGrenon

Martine Grenon Lafontaine BA, NCCP

Personal Trainer

Martine is passionate about health, fitness and sport conditioning. She has been a competitive gymnist, swimmer and downhill skier. Her passion for physical activity led her to a degree in Kinesiology. Martine has been a Personal Trainer and Fitness Instructor for 7 years. She enjoys teaching multiple styles of classes, with her favorite including PUMP and Boot Camp.

Over the past three years, Martine has found a new passion for racing in half-marathons, marathons, and especially triathlons. She started with Olympic distances in her first year, moving on to Ironman 70.3 distances in her second year. Since she is always looking for a new challenge and push herself to new limits, the next step was Ironman Canada 2011 which she found to be the most rewarding athletic experience of her life so far. Martine looks forward to pushing your limits in her PUMP and Boot Camp classes at Athletic Evolution, and is also available for endurance training.

Andrew Milne

Andrew Milne

Consultant: Summer Hockey Performance Program

Andrew brings a wealth of expertise to AE’s High Performance Hockey Program from both sides of the bench – as an elite level coach and former professional hockey player. Andrew has been the Head Coach and General Manager of the AJHL’s Canmore Eagles for the past three years, after spending 2005 to 2008 with the Western Hockey League (WHL) as Assistant Coach to the Kamloops Blazers (2006-2008) and Assistant Coach to the Swift Current Broncos (2005-2006). During his hockey career, Andrew played four seasons in the WHL, with Spokane, Swift Current, and Medicine Hat. He also played professional hockey in Europe.

As an on-ice Performance Consultant to AE, Andrew provides a dynamic mix of technical skill development and conditioning based sessions that are seamlessly integrated into our high performance dryland program. Andrew has a Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education with a major in Sports Management from the University of Alberta.
